Africa was a major center of Christianity for hundreds of years following the crucifixion of Christ, where it remained the primary religion until Islam took root in most African countries. During periods of colonization and missionary activity throughout the centuries since, Christianity has begun to slowly spread spread back throughout Africa. By the year 2000, Christians in African had grown to about 335 million, representing about 45% of the total population. In some countries, it is now the majority faith, but in many other African countries, much more needs to be done.
In this post, find out a few ways to help spread the word about Christianity in Africa.
Ways to Help Spread Christianity
Be a Part of a Mission Trip
A mission trip to Africa can be a wonderful opportunity to share your knowledge and interact with the people who are open to learning about Jesus Christ. You can share God’s love and your personal testimony with them. Hand out gospel tracts that they can use to help them throughout the day and that they can pass along to others in their communities.
Help Deliver Needed Supplies
Donate your time by providing goods needed to the people of an African country. The service you provide could be donating food to a food drive organized by your church or Christian charity. Become an integral part of the drive, or even be the person who organizes it. Whether it is a food drive, or a drive for other goods such as baby supplies, medical supplies, clothing, or similar items, it is a way to help address impoverished countries in Africa by spreading God’s love.
If you organize a clothing drive, have a clothing drive that features clothing emblazoned with a Christian symbol or a bible passage. Hats, shirts, and handbags in particular are often imprinted with advertisements or humorous images. It’s hard to think of a better way to spread the word to a wide group of people without ever having to say a word.
Help Deliver Needed Services
Many countries in Africa lack basic infrastructure, meaning that they do not have ready access to clean water, medical services, and similar services that we often take for granted in the West. If you have expertise in providing these kinds of services, consider participating in a mission trip that brings those services to those African communities that need them.
Partner with Businesses and Faith-Based Organizations
There is power in numbers. Reach more people by working with more people to deliver God’s message. Partner with for-profit and nonprofit organizations that want to help raise funds in the United States for the purpose of creating awareness about a needed service and spreading Christian values in African countries.
Also, partner with African organizations such as businesses or established non-profit groups that have a presence in Africa. Provide them with free hand-outs such as bibles, gospel tracts, clothing, and other items that contain God’s word.
Connect with People on Social Media
Access to the internet and social media is a wonderful way to interact with people from other countries. Even in remote locations in Africa, people have internet access.
Share helpful information on social media. For example, if you would like to help improve sanitary conditions in war ravaged countries such as Liberia, share useful information In your posts. It may be links to local organizations where people can find help. When you post information, incorporate Christian messages. By including spiritual messages in your postings, you increase the odds that your words will reach someone who will be positively influenced by God’s word. Why not show others what the bible means to you and how it has positively impacted your life.
Donate through The Last Well and Other Christian Charities
Support the work of Christian charities like The Last Well through your donations. The mission of The Last Well is to provide access to safe-drinking water for the entire nation of Liberia, border to border, and offer the gospel to every community they serve by 2020. You can donate by donating directly to the organization in any amount you can manage.
Many Christian charities offer other ways to donate and spread God’s word. At The Last Well, for example, you can donate through pledges, or by pooling them with others in your family, your company, or your friends. By leveraging your donations, you can transform an entire Liberian village by providing safe drinking water and spreading the word of God.
Partner with an in-country organization to provide matching grants and cost sharing. The local organizations can offer services while they share the Gospel and connect villagers to local or regional churches.
Learn More about The Last Well
In 1980 political tensions in Liberia resulted in the beginning of a 15 year-long conflict where nearly 250,000 Liberians (8% of the population) died, and where the once beautiful country found its infrastructure entirely decimated. In the years since, Liberia has consistently ranked as one of the five poorest countries in the world.
If you want to make a real difference for people who need it the most, consider working with The Last Well. Your donations to The Last Well can help end the water crisis in Liberia once and for all, and bring Christian values to its people.
